Judy Pottorff
Judy Pottorff joined the board of the Douglas County Historical Society in January 2023. After 14 military moves with her husband, Jim Pottorff, Judy returned to Lawrence, Kansas in 2000 where she and Jim both previously attended law school at KU. Although now retired, Judy had a varied career, including teaching in the history department at KU as well as teaching legal courses in various colleges near the military installations where they were stationed. In addition, she was a practicing attorney in Manhattan, KS and in Charlottesville, VA and served for over 14 years as the Corporation Counsel for Kansas Athletics, Inc. Judy’s love of history was triggered by family visits to museums and historical sites near where she grew up including historic Mystic Seaport (CT) and Sturbridge Village (MA) as well as exploring military forts and battle sites around the U.S. She is a graduate of Smith College (US history major) and the University of Kansas Law School where she was Managing Editor of the Law Review and won an award for historic preservation law.
