Cemeteries are valuable for understanding the historical and cultural landscape of a community. Preserving cemeteries respects the deceased and acknowledges the historical and cultural role they play for current and future generations. The Douglas County Historical Society’s Oak Hill Cemetery Preservation Committee preserves not only physical memory, but spiritual memory as well. Committee members engage in a range of activities from basic maintenance to more complex preservation projects, all aimed at preserving these sites as valuable resources for understanding historical, genealogical, and architectural aspects of the past.
