This year, the Watkins education staff collaborated with artist Maya Amen to produce an exciting and educational graphic novel for kids. The Rescue of John Doy is the amazing true story of a Lawrence freedom fighter, his arrest while transporting freedom seekers in 1859, and the famous plot by the “Immortal Ten” to spring him from jail. This exhibit reproduces the graphic novel on wall panels and includes insights on the historical events and Maya’s artistic process.
