Literary societies were the center of social life and the way to continue education for generations of Lawrence women. This exhibit will explore literary societies as social spaces, as places of growing political and community influence, and as informal learning communities. While several literary societies are mentioned throughout, the exhibit commemorates Friends in Council’s 100th anniversary.
