Join us at the Outdoor Aquatic Center as KU graduate student Maggie Brown-Peoples details her research into the issues around the creation of Lawrence’s first integrated swimming pool. From the protests of the Jayhawk Plunge in 1960 to the creation of the Lawrence Municipal Pool in 1969, university students, civic organizations, and others came together in one campaign of the larger Civil Rights movement.

Maggie will share this story from her perspective and welcome those who remember the days of segregated swimming facilities to give personal stories.
