Liberating Lawrence: Gay Activism in the 1970s at KU

10/15/24 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm

Author Kathy Rose-Mockry will speak on the subject of her new book. Liberating Lawrence tells the first-hand story of the Lawrence Gay Liberation Front (LGLF), a KU student organization that began in 1970. Having conducted sixty-seven interviews with people who were involved at the time, Rose-Mockry focuses on the group’s early formative years between the founding and 1979, during which time the members of LGLF had to fight for their right to exist on campus as an official student group.

Copies will be available for purchase and signing by the author. This event will be held in-person and online on the Watkins Museum Facebook and YouTube.

This event is part of the Lawrence 1970s Project.
