Haunting Humanities–the one-of-a-kind series of presentations, activities, games, and performances during the spooky season–returns to Abe & Jake’s!

For Haunting Humanities 2023, the Watkins will partner with Bleeding Kansas living historians. Step back in time to join the Fight for Freedom. In 1855, the Wakarusa War began the armed fights over whether to make Kansas a free or a slave state, and it happened right here in Lawrence, on ground we walk every day. Join us in exploring the conflict that saved Lawrence, while learning about the people that lived through it nearly 170 years ago. Living historians representing these citizens will be discussing everyday life in 1855 through their clothing, gear, and other artifacts, as well as offering samples of food from the era.
