Code of Conduct

Our museum preserves and interprets local history for the benefit of all. We therefore have a responsibility to maintain and protect the artifacts and other items under our care, and staff members, volunteers, and visitors are responsible for their actions toward other people and toward the items in the museum. We therefore ask everyone in the museum to adhere to our code of conduct:

Staff, volunteers, and visitors of all kinds will:

  • Treat everyone with courtesy.
  • Not engage in any type of verbal or physical violence, harassment, or threatening behavior.
  • Follow printed and verbal instructions about handling objects, and in general, not handle artifacts and other displayed items unless invited to do so.
  • Wear appropriate attire, including shirts and shoes.
  • Handle carefully objects meant for handling (such as interactive exhibits) and return objects to their places when done.
  • Dispose of trash in trashcans and not leave personal belongings unattended.
  • Avoid eating, gum chewing, or drinking from cups without closed lids while in the galleries unless permitted during special events.
  • Not bring firearms or other weapons into the museum.
  • Be courteous around groups on guided tours, giving them space and not talking loudly near them.
  • Move about the building carefully and avoid running.
  • Follow public health rules and recommendations.
  • Not bring pets or other animals into the museum except for service animals.
  • Avoid any other behavior that puts people or objects at risk, as determined at the sole discretion of museum staff and volunteers.
