Oak Hill Committee Photographed by Lawrence Parks & Rec

On August 22, the Lawrence Department of Parks, Recreation, Arts and Culture paid tribute to the Oak Hill Cemetery Committee on their Facebook page.

“Putting their hearts into every stone, the Oak Hill Cemetery Committee is united by a shared mission: preserving a piece of Lawrence’s history.

“’We’re advocating for something truly worth saving. This cemetery holds an important history for our city,’ says Denise, who leads the monthly stone cleaning sessions.

“With deep family ties to Oak Hill Cemetery, Denise and her fellow committee members are dedicated to restoring and maintaining this sacred space.

“Established in 1863 to honor the victims of Quantrill’s Raid, Oak Hill continues to serve as a final resting place for many in the Lawrence community.”
